Flight of the Conchords Season 2?
Well we fell in love with these Lord of the Rings lovin’/Sheep heardin’/whale ridin’/nicer versions of Australians, (New Zealanders) last year. This season they went for quality not quantity since they used 98% of their material in the last season. With all new songs and new ideas I can’t help but feel they are falling a bit short of their original stuff. Then again I also feel it’s always hard to one-up yourself when the first thing you do is hit a grand slam homerun & the baseball smashes into the windshield of Count Chocula’s hertz. Even if their new stuff isn’t as Great as their first season, it still beats the crap out of EVERYTHING else. Here’s a list of why FOTC is great in my opinion.
-They are making musicals cool again to the general public.
-Their songs aren’t just clever & cheeky, they are actually Good songs.
-Their humor is original and clever & doesn’t need to go for the obvious gross or shock value.
-The costume designer for the show has the best taste ever ie. Bret’s sweaters
-Unlike The Lonely island, FOTC inspires me and doesn’t make me jealous of their success and creativity.
And all though the most recent episode “Prime Minister” was one of my least favorite of all the episodes; it still has it’s moments. At the very end (SPOLER ALERT) when Jemaine comes home and Bret is practicing solo Paul Simon songs with an group of African singers is so funny ((in my opinion) Evin watch this now!) it’s worth watching the whole episode just as the set up for this joke! I had to rewind that part and watch it thrice. Thank you Jemaine & Bret, you continue to make me laugh and remind me that their is some good entertainment out there.
However.
I won’t watch them in concert as they are touring the nation soon. I don’t want to ruin the brilliance of their tv show with a bad live experience of them singing songs. (Don’t you hate when that happens?) I don’t think that live performance is the platform they were meant to be viewed upon. Plus I can’t stand thinking about what college age douche bags will be going to that (Not that You are if You’re going, but they will be there).
