So I finally saw Avatar. Here’s my thoughts:

1st off let me say that the reason I waited so long wasn’t because I didn’t want to see the movie; it was because my girlfriend didn’t want to see it. That and I wanted to wait until I could see it with a crowd of 4 people in the theater rather than 400. I kind of went on a whim and since I’ve heard such mixed reviews from “This is the greatest film ever”, to “Avatar Ava-sucked”; I had no pre-disposed opinions. I could be completely un-biased in my convictions about the film.

As it started off I have to say that I was impressed with the “3-D” effects of the movie. My friend Max says they should call it “Depth Cinema” (D-C) not 3-D, because it’s not 3-D as we know 3-D to be (ie. Captain EO, which by the way is returning to Disneyland if you want to see some real 3-D). It was cool nevertheless but it doesn’t “Change Everything” as I’ve been hearing a lot of people say. It just sweetens the movie a little bit, like whipped cream on a coffee drink. You would normally drink it plain, but it’s fun sometimes to have the whipped cream. But you don’t have whipped cream on your coffee all the time! That’s gross. I don’t think I would want to watch every movie like that. It would probably give me a tumor.

As for the story itself I’m not gonna lie, I really enjoyed it. I mean who wouldn’t like the combination of “Dances with Wolves” & “Ferngully”? Which is basically what “Avatar” is. But to be fair I don’t know how good the story would have been without the “D-C”. Maybe this movie does suck and we’ve all been tricked by James Cameron into watching a B Movie about space Indians. We’ll just have to wait till it comes out on DVD and let the normal screen be the judge. So I say for those of you who haven’t seen it yet because you’re too cinema snobby or don’t want to follow the crowd; Go see it while you can in “D-C” cause it’s worth it.
