Northwest Roadtrip Days 1&2
Happy Friday all! Here’s the first real update of the trip so far:
Day 1 Wed 5/20/09
Left for S.F. from S.D. 7:30 a.m. Got breakfast at Einstiens Bagels and got some sweet travel mugs for coffee roadtrip sake. Took the 5 N all the way up to the 580 to Berkeley. Stopped at a Motocross park for a random adventure before we got into the city to take a break and grab a coke and watch some Bro’s ride their bikes and Bro it up. We stuck out like a sore thumb, like they’ve never seen a fanny pack before or something! The funny thing was they were all really nice people. The bay area is so nice even the Bro’s are cool. Got to Berk and went to a thrift shop on Dwigght an San Pablo where I picked up a sweet fadora and Justine got some cool olde tyme shoes. Meet up with Evin and ate with him at his fav pizza shop. Twas a very cool place where they only make 1 kind of pizza there all day (a different kind every day). They had a line going out the door, but it went fast cause they make them non-stop. There was a piano player there with flute accompiniment. After a few too many slices and a beer, we decided to walk around town. Rather than go to a bar, we bought 3 Cokes and some Jim Bean and made our drinks travel proof. We went to Ameoba Records and scored some treasures in the $1 vinyl bins. My findings were are as follows: Simon and Garfunkle (SofS), Cindy Lauper, Hall and Oats (live), and Huey Lewis (Power of Love - single). Than it was back to Evin’s abode for late night talks of the “Dinosaurs” t.v. show and “Twin Sitters” the Barbarian Brothers finest work.

Day 2 Thurs. 5/21/09
Left Berkeley around 10 to meet with Aunt Patti & Uncle Nando in Peteluma (one of the prettiest little artsy towns I know, they filmed American Graffiti there!) We had breakfast by there apartment and Justine ate a keish (big accomplishment!(she has eggphobias)). Conversed with the relatives about pop culture and recent flicks & left with a tote bag full of 16 mm films from Nando. They showed us their apartment and Justine and Nando talked about their art work. After saying our goodbyes, we got on the one-oh-one and were off to the races (and by races I mean Oregon)! The drive was beautiful! It looked like middle-earth where hobbits and wizards live. We took our time through the top of California and stopped many times along the way. We drove through the famous Chandelier Tree in the Redwood Forest and spent about an hour in the gift shop. Aside from the much needed Push-ups we purchased, the finest of our souveniers were a cribbage board with a eagle head carved in it and a coonskin cap. The next stop we made was at the crazy mystery house that is supposedly not bound to the laws of gravity. It is a place where water runs up hill, people can walk on the walls, and you can’t get out of your chair. As it turns out, the house is just built on a slant and it is a hoax for pictures. Good thing we didn’t pay the $5 do it. LAME. Next stop: creepy Garberville. Bad tuna melt and creepy. We played 20 questions until we arrived at Paul Bunyan right before dark and caught it right at the magic hour. About 1.5 hours later we were in Oregon. We stopped in Gold Beach to stay with Aunt Sarah and Uncle Jeff for the night. Sarah showed us old family films and we broke in our new cribbage board. After enjoying the Jimmy Fallon show, we poured ourselves into bed to get a good night’s sleep before Day 3.
